Rivercane / Switchcane

Rivercane, including its variant Switchcane (also known as Canebrake), is the only native bamboo species in North America. Long valued by Native American communities for its wide range of uses, Rivercane has become the focus of ongoing conservation efforts aimed at reintroducing it into both historic and new habitats.

In modern landscapes, Rivercane is appreciated for its beauty, versatility, and custom applications. Sadly, Rivercane—particularly Switchcane—is now considered critically endangered, with an estimated 99% of its natural habitat lost due to human activity.

Our Switchcane is sustainably grown and harvested from its native environment here on our multi-purpose farm. It thrives in natural soil and is nourished by nearby water sources and direct rainfall. The unique genome of our crop is native to the region and represents an especially resilient variety.
